There is dispute over the parentage of Walkelin, who was most probably descended from [DERB341] Walkelin de Ferrieres (see DERBY (FERRIERES) EARLDOM). Versions include he was the son of [DERB361] 1st Earl Robert, or [DERB371] 2nd Earl Robert, or [FER2371] Henry de Ferrieres who in turn could have been the son one of the other brothers of [DERB361] 1st Earl Robert (viz Engenulf or William).

27. [FER2381] Walkelin (3rd son of [DERB361] Earl Robert (see DERBY (FERRIERES) EARLDOM). He was Seigneur of Ferrieres-Saint-Hilaire and Lord of Oakham, was present at the Siege of Jerusalem (31st December 1189). He married 1. Sybil de Braose (daughter of [ABER361] William de Braose & Bertha, see ABERGAVENNY (BRIOUZE) BARONY); then 2. Goda to Toni (daughter of Robert de Toni).
