RETURN TO POST-1538 FAMILIES PAGE
There was a Kitson family at Priesthorpe in the parish of Calverley around the 1490's, but absence of parish registers at that time means it is not possible to link them with what are clearly their descendants in that township a hundred years later. Also a Peter Kitson was Vicar at Calverley 1551-58.
[KITS581] John Kitson had several children including:
Elizabeth (baptised at Calverley, 16th September 1576);
Issabell (born at Priesthorpe, baptised at Calverley, 22nd February 1583/4);
Marie (born at Priesthorpe, baptised at Calverley, 30th January 1585/6), died unmarried (buried at Calverley, 17th May 1639)
[KITS591] William (born at Priesthorpe, baptised at Calverley, 6th January 1589/90), married Margrete Toppin, see later;
Thomas (baptised at Calverley, 18th March 1591/2), died (age 9) (buried at Calverley, 22nd May 1601);
John (born 1594), died at Priesthorpe (1632);
Anne (baptised at Calverley, 10th July 1596);
Rosamund (baptised at Calverley, 30th July 1598);
Edward (born at Idle, Thorp, baptised at Calverley, 10th April 1601).
John probably died between 1607 and 1624 when there is a gap in the Calverley registers
[KITS591] William Kitson (born 1590) married (at Guiseley, 12th February 1617/8) [TOPP592] Margrete Toppin.

They had several children, including:
[KITS601] William (born at Priesthorpe, baptised at Calverley, 2nd April 1620), see later;
Jane (baptised at Calverley, 25th August 1622);
Issabell (born at Priesthorpe, baptised at Calverley, 10th May 1629);
Marie (-), died at Priesthorpe (buried at Calverley, 7th May 1635);
William moved to Eccleshill, in Bradford parish, where there an indenture survives concerning William the elder, his wife Margaret and William the younger (1650). In 1660 it was recorded that William was occupying lands at Hallywells, Littlegarth, Fallowcroft, Radfields, Fagley, Folderings, Moorlands, Haigh, Apperley, Calfroyd and Broomroyd. Willm Kitson was assessed with 1 hearth at the 1672 Hearth Tax at Eccleshill. William died (age 85) at Greengates, in Eccleshill, (buried at Calverley, 9th January 1674/5). His entry in that particular burial register was unusual; it was the only one giving a person's age. Margaret died at Eccleshill (buried at Calverley, 20th February 1678).
[KITS601] William Kitson (born 1620) was married more than once, including to Anne mentioned in his will, and had several children, including:
William (born c.1650, but possibly baptised at Bradford, 25th August 1667), died at Eccleshill (1728);
Ann (born c.1652), married (at Bradford, 8th May 1672) John Broadley;
Sarah (born c.1654), married (c.1685) John Simpson.

Mary, married (at Bradford, 7th May 1679) Thomas Wilkinson;
Grace (born at Eccleshill, baptised at Bradford, 2nd December 1660), married 1. (at Bradford, 7th June 1703) Christopher Fletcher; then 2. (at Guiseley, 26th July 1710) John Hainsworth;

William died at Eccleshill (buried at Bradford, St. Peter, 10th December 1703), leaving a will, naming his surviving sons in order: William, James, John, Edward. His widow Anne probably died five years later (1708).
[KITS611] John Kitson (born c.1672, son of William & an unknown wife) had at least one child as follows:
[KITS621] John (born c.1694), married Mary Robinson, see later.
John (a yeoman) died at Eccleshill (buried at Bradford, St. Peter, 10th July 1728).
[KITS621] John Kitson (born c.1694), a clothier of Eccleshill, married (at Bradford, 29th September 1713) [ROBN622] Mary Robinson, both of Eccleshill. They had seven children born at Eccleshill and baptised at Bradford as follows:

(When Edward and Zedekiah were baptised (1719-21), their father John was specifically described as being “John junior”.) John (a clothier) died at Eccleshill (buried at Calverley, 23rd January 1729), and Mary died at Eccleshill also (buried at Calverley, 12th May 1747).
[KITS631] Edward Kitson (born 1719) married (at Bradford, 29th September 1745) [BRUM632] Martha Brundle (born 1723, see BRUNDLE), both of Eccleshill. They had ten children born at Eccleshill and baptised at Bradford as follows:
