12.   [LAYF581] Edmund Layfield. Margaret "late wife of Edmund Layfield" was buried at Kirkby Lonsdale (30th March 1539). Edmund Layfield married (at Kirkby Lonsdale, 2nd July 1542) Jenet Harling. These events may not necessarily relate to the same Edmund, who could have been father and son. After a lengthy gap Edmund had the following children baptised at Kirkby Lonsdale, whose mother was not necessarily Jenet:

• Nicholas (baptised 18th March 1562-63).

11.  [LAYF591] Edward Layfield (born 1561) married (at Kirkby Lonsdale, 19th February 1586-87) --- [name omitted in register]. They had thirteen children baptised at Kirkby Lonsdale as follows:

• Edmund (baptised 17th December 1593);

• Christopher (baptised 25th February 1595-96);

• John (baptised 16th January 1598-99);

• Anne (baptised 25th March 1601);

• Jane (baptised 25th December 1603);

• Edward (baptised 22nd May 1606);

• Alice (baptised 10th July 1608);

• 10. [LAYF601] Thomas (baptised 16th December 1610), married Isabell Moore, see later;

• Anne (baptised 29th April 1613);

• Samuel (baptised 30th July 1615);

• Abigail (baptised 26th October 1617);

• Sarah (baptised 9th April 1620.

• Elizabeth (baptised 17th February 1621-22).

With the exception of the name John, no name is repeated. This suggests they were all children of the same Edward, though not necessarily by the wife he married in 1587.

10.   [LAYF601] Thomas Layfield (born 1610) married (at Kirkby Lonsdale, 15th July 1631) [MORI602] Isabell Moore. They had three children baptised at Kirkby Lonsdale as follows:

• Alice (baptised 11th March 1633-34);

• Ellin (baptised 20th October 1636);

• 9. [LAYF611] Myles (baptised 6th January 1639-40), married Isabella Burrow, see later.

Isabell, shown as a widow, died at Tearnside (buried at Kirkby Lonsdale, 2nd October 1665).

9.    [LAYF611] Myles Layfield (born 1640) married (at Kirkby Lonsdale, 10th October 1657) [BURR612] Isabella Burrow (born 1633, see BURROW), both of Tearnside. They had six children born at Tearnside and baptised at Kirkby Lonsdale as follows:

• Isabell (baptised 17th October 1658);

• William (baptised 7th April 1661);

• John (baptised 27th September 1663), died at "Kirkby Lonsdale" (buried at Kirkby Lonsdale, 26th August 1679). He presumably died at Tearnside;

• Miles (baptised 10th September 1665), died at Tearnside (buried at Kirkby Lonsdale, 3rd April 1679);

• 8. [LAYF622] Alice (baptised 19th April 1668), married James Garnett, see later;

• Elizabeth (baptised 5th February 1671-72), lived 4 months.

Miles Layfield had 1 hearth in the Hearth Tax survey (1674). Isabell (“widow of Miles”) died at Tearnside (buried at Kirkby Lonsdale, 30th November 1695).

• 8. [LAYF622] Alice Layfield (born 1668, daughter of Myles) married (by licence dated 9th February 1690-91) [GRNT621] James Garnett (born 1662, see GARNETT).
